Campus Wireless Network Services

The UC Davis Campus Wireless Network

The wireless networks on campus support most wireless devices (802.11 a/b/g/n) and are available to all UC Davis computing account holders, sponsored guests, and eduroam account holders.

Four wireless network names (SSIDs) are currently available on the UC Davis campus:

  • moobilenetx is the on-campus wireless network available to all UC Davis computing account holders. It employs an encrypted authentication protocol called 802.1x and all wireless traffic between your laptop and the wireless access point is encrypted. Once you configure your laptop and authenticate onto moobilenetx, your wireless connection will auto-associate with all moobilenetx access points. Please see instructions below on how to authenticate to moobilenetx.

  • resnetx is the wireless network in the residence halls and it uses the same authentication protocol as moobilenetx - 802.1x and all wireless traffic between your laptop and the wireless access point is encrypted. Please follow the instructions below on how to authenticate to resnetx.

  • moobilenet is the legacy wireless network that is available to all UC Davis computing account holders and sponsored guests. moobilenet employs a browser-based captive-portal authentication and this means that there are limitations on "roaming" from one wireless access point to another (you may have to re-authenticate if you change buildings while using moobilenet) and the wireless traffic between your laptop and the wireless access point is not encrypted.

  • eduroam is the wireless network available to all eduroam-enabled accounts. It employs an encrypted authentication protocol called 802.1x and all wireless traffic between your laptop and the wireless access point is encrypted. For more information on eduroam, visit www.eduroamus.org. To use an eduroam account from another educational institution, please follow the instructions below on how to connect to eduroam.

How to connect to the UC Davis wireless networks

  1. Select the eduroam wireless network in your available wireless networks
  2. Enter Your_Login_ID@Your_School.edu in the Login field (where Your_Login_ID is the login ID that you use to authenticate at your educational institution and Your_School.edu is the domain name of your educational institution - for example, @ucdavis.edu for UC Davis computing account holders)
  3. Enter your password (the same password that you use to authenticate at your educational institution)
Note: For more information about eduroam, visit www.eduroamus.org.
